Location: Friuli-Venezia Giulia, IT
Who: Giovanni Ruzzene
Giovanni Viberti is a family-owned winery located in the Vergne commune of Barolo, with a history dating back to the early 1900’s. The estate was founded when Antonio Viberti acquired the local inn, “Al Buon Padre” along with the surrounding vineyard that supplied wines for the trattoria. Initially, the estate focused on cultivating Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo grapes for serving to restaurant guests.
In 1967, Antonio’s son Giovanni took charge of the winery, alongside his wife Maria. During the 1970s, the family expanded their vineyard holdings and constructed a state-of-the-art cellar to showcase the distinctive character of Barolo’s native grapes. Today, Claudio Viberti represents the third generation of the family to oversee the winery. He is deeply involved in every phase of winemaking, blending traditional knowledge with a contemporary approach. Giovanni Viberti’s wines are elegant, expressive, and rooted in tradition – offering an authentic reflection of the Barolo landscape.
