“After 2.5 decades of wine business, I have seen a lot – from the very best, to the very worst of the wine industry. Wine has taken me to all corners of the globe, from hustling wine in London, New York, Beijing or Seoul, to importing trips in Italy, Germany, France, Spain & Portugal – I’ve borne witness to both mature and emerging wine markets and, moreso, trends.
The wine trade I love is the artisans pouring heart and soul into their craft. Those rare patches of dirt with climates so challenging only the maddest agronomist would toil, that produce fruit of dizzying quality. The vintners and bar owners whose passion for introducing these products to the public outweigh their desire for wealth.
Unfortunately our industry can also sometimes involve some smoke, mirrors and mud.
My commitment at the The Legit Wine Co is to represent legitimacy in all areas, with the highest level of integrity, authenticity, and respect for our brand partners and valued customers.” James Majer
Like many in the industry, James ‘fell into’ the wine industry due to a (un)healthy appreciation for all things alcoholic. Starting out in the late 90’s originally behind the scenes doing accounts and payroll for some reputable Perth bars. Fortuitously gravitating to a role managing Perth’s top wine shop, it sent James deep into the world of wine and there was no turning back. The following decades saw extensive experience working in fine wine retail, winery brand management, global export, brand development and marketing, as well as overseeing domestic wholesale markets, with some importing thrown in the mix for good measure. James is also a passionate guitarist and hiphop producer and is willing to rip a mad guitar solo to secure a sale.
Danielle hails from New Zealand and joined the Legit Wine Co in early 2024 after relocating to Perth. Growing up in a viticultural family, Dani worked the vines in the Central Otago GI as far back as 2006, and has remained immersed in the wine industry ever since. She is currently in the final stages of completing her WSET Diploma, and boasts extensive experience across various facets of the wine industry – from fine wine retail, wine bars, wholesale “repping”, and cellar door / wine clubs. Danielle previously represented NZ in BMX, and is willing to do mad stunts to secure a sale.
